RatCap: Florida Panthers Can Not Solve Buffalo Sabres’ Goaltender Linus Ullmark In 3-2 Loss

The Florida Panthers took the ice against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night at the BB&T Center. The game featured Jonathan Huberdeau’s long-awaited first goal of the season, as well as strong performances by Vincent Trocheck and the team’s fourth line. While the team played a solid game, the Panthers lacked the desperation that they had in the final four minutes of the game. That lack of desperation throughout the game costed them in a 3-2 loss to Buffalo.

The Panthers would blow a lead late in the 3rd period and eventually be stunned in the shootout. Continue reading RatCap: Fredrik Anderson Stones Florida Panthers In 3-2 Shootout Loss

RatCap: Florida Panthers Cool Off Red Hot Dallas Stars 6-2

After being outplayed and outmatched their previous game in Chicago, the Florida Panthers seemed to play with a chip on their shoulders. The team would also be without first line center Aleksander Barkov due to a wrist injury suffered Thursday night during the Chicago Blackhawks game. To add some more intrigue to the match, Florida coach Gerard Gallant would tab backup goalie Al Montoya as the Panthers starter in net. After a delay of game penalty drawn by Alex Petrovic, the Stars would capitalize on the ensuing power play and score the first goal of the game. For a brief moment, it seemed as though the Panthers and fans watching at home would be in for a long night. However, the Panthers would step up their intensity and score the next four goals of the game. Newly formed first line of Huberdeau, Bjugstad, and Jagr would connect for 2 goals and a total of 6 points in contest. Overall, a very good game played by the Panthers.

OLD PALS COME AROUND: Former Fan-Favorite Foward David Booth Signs PTO With Florida Panthers

As the early years of my Panthers fandom, and hockey in general, peaked throughout the 2000’s, one name that always brought a smile to my face was David Booth. Watching him streak across the ice, it would become a tradition to chant, “Boooooth!”, every time that he held the puck.

One of the Panthers strongest players of the last decade, Booth was traded to Vancouver with tears flowing down his face only six games into the 2011-12 season. The move was not personal, as Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon needed to make a strong move in order to instill a better work ethic amongst his team, as well as to make it clear that more moves would be made if the team would not improve.

After four seasons with the Vancouver Canucks and a brief stint with the Toronto Maple Leafs, David Booth has finally returned to a place where he had his most success in the NHL.

The Prodigal Son has returned.

A Healthy Nick Bjugstad Hopes To Lead The Florida Panthers Back Into The Playoffs

Nick Bjugstad QuoteNick Bjugstad is starting his first year under his new contract and he is being paid as a player regarded as a reliable number one or two center. Considering this contract is in effect for six years, the Panthers organization truly believe they found a gem when they drafted him 19th overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. As he enters his third full NHL season, Bjugstad will have to prove that he can continue to be the skilled 6’6″ center that other teams have been worried about since his NHL debut.
