On November 12th, the Florida Panthers announced that they have claimed forward Seth Griffith off waivers. A natural center, Griffith has shown that he has the ability to play all three forward positions. With the Panthers injury situation as it is, this could be the best chance for Griffith to show he has what it takes to excel at the NHL level.

Rats N' Pucks Logo new

On a night in which the Florida Panthers were defeated for the first time in over a month, that was not the biggest story of the night. After the Vancouver Canucks ended the Florida Panthers twelve game winning streak, something was said towards the Panthers bench and both benches cleared to the ice in something that has not happened much since the 1980’s. What happened between the Florida Panthers and Vancouver Canucks? Which team’s comments would you side with?

Florida Panthers: Some Positives and Negatives Through The First Five Games

Note: This was written before the game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on November 20, 2015

Even though one week out of a six month long season is a very small sample size, Panthers fans should be nothing but excited about the product on the ice thus far. As we head into the 2nd week of the season, the Panthers do not need to change much in their game. Instead they have to focus on consistency and rebounding after inevitable losses that occur during every NHL season.

Anthem Of The Year 2015: We Are The Youth

Rats N' Pucks WhiteWhen Dale Tallon was hired in May of 2010, he sat down at his press conference and said that he was committed to building the Florida Panthers the right way: A professional and championship way. He wanted to make the Florida Panthers a first-class organization from top to bottom. Championship aside, I believe he has already turned this franchise around with the help of Doug Cifu and Vincent Viola.

Welcome to our next installment of “Back to the Future”, where we look at games of seasons past in Florida Panthers history in anticipation of next season and beyond. We will not be using any DeLoreans and our pieces will not be orchestrated by “Doc” Brown. OLD PALS COME AROUND: Former Fan-Favorite Foward David Booth Signs PTO With Florida Panthers

As the early years of my Panthers fandom, and hockey in general, peaked throughout the 2000’s, one name that always brought a smile to my face was David Booth. Watching him streak across the ice, it would become a tradition to chant, “Boooooth!”, every time that he held the puck.

One of the Panthers strongest players of the last decade, Booth was traded to Vancouver with tears flowing down his face only six games into the 2011-12 season. The move was not personal, as Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon needed to make a strong move in order to instill a better work ethic amongst his team, as well as to make it clear that more moves would be made if the team would not improve.

After four seasons with the Vancouver Canucks and a brief stint with the Toronto Maple Leafs, David Booth has finally returned to a place where he had his most success in the NHL.

The Prodigal Son has returned.

Reilly Smith Looks To Make Impact With Florida Panthers Next Season

Reilly Smith quote 8-31

Gone is Jimmy Hayes and here is Reilly Smith.

Quiet throughout most of the offseason, the Florida Panthers traded streaky forward Jimmy Hayes to the Boston Bruins in exchange for speedy forward Reilly Smith. While the Panthers lose a 6’6 hulking, physical forward in Hayes, the team acquired a playmaker and a speedy player in Smith. Retaining his #18 from his days in Boston, Reilly Smith looks to make an impact during his first season in South Florida.

A Healthy Nick Bjugstad Hopes To Lead The Florida Panthers Back Into The Playoffs

Nick Bjugstad QuoteNick Bjugstad is starting his first year under his new contract and he is being paid as a player regarded as a reliable number one or two center. Considering this contract is in effect for six years, the Panthers organization truly believe they found a gem when they drafted him 19th overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. As he enters his third full NHL season, Bjugstad will have to prove that he can continue to be the skilled 6’6″ center that other teams have been worried about since his NHL debut.
