On Friday morning, the Florida Panthers officially took the ice for the first time to start their training camp. The team was in Sunrise on Thursday for physicals, but Friday marked the beginning of the two day workouts prior to their first preseason game Sunday.

On Thursday night, the NHL confirmed what most of the media have been predicting since the season began back in October: Aaron Ekblad is a Calder Trophy finalist.
The 19 year-old defensemen was nominated for the Calder Trophy along with Ottawa Senators F Mark Stone and Calgary Flames F Johnny Gaudreau. The Calder Trophy is awarded to the NHL’s best first-year player, and is voted upon by members of the Professional Hockey Writer’s Association.
